Getting the Tone Right: Producing Optus’s Customer Remediation Campaign

Not every corporate video is about selling something. Following an ACCC enforceable undertaking, Optus needed to communicate a customer Remediation Program — refunds and debt waivers for affected customers — and Cass Brothers Productions was brought on to produce the hero video and social cuts.

The brief

This was about clarity and care, not persuasion. The video needed to reach vulnerable audiences in plain English, with a tone that was empathetic and culturally safe rather than corporate or promotional.

The production

A one-day shoot at a single location, built around relatable Australian talent and a genuinely welcoming, residential setting rather than a studio backdrop. Every deliverable prioritised deliberate, unhurried pacing, mandatory open captions, clear scam-awareness disclaimers, and prominent, easy-to-read placement of the Optus Specialist Care Team number and response webpage.

Why this brief is different

Sensitive corporate communications — remediation programs, service issues, policy changes — need a completely different production instinct than brand advertising: slower pacing, plainer language, and a real understanding of who’s on the other end of the message. If your business has something important but sensitive to communicate to customers, this is the kind of care we bring to it.
